Baking In Mini Terra Cotta Pots - The Style Sisters

Baking In Mini Terra Cotta Pots

By The Style Sisters - Friday, March 15, 2013

I love to serve rolls in a fun ways especially in the spring for Easter. This particular way of baking and serving them in mini terra cotta pots is just too adorable!
First you need to "prepare" the little pots, here is a great tutorial on how to do that on Ehow. Basically you wash the pots and then soak them in water for 15 min before you bake the rolls in the mini terra cotta pots.

After your pots have soaked and dried, your little terra cotta pots are ready to start baking.
Grease your pots with crisco so that the rolls will pop out easier.
Place either your homemade roll dough or store bought roll dough into the pots and let rise.
Place the mini terra cotta clay pots into a cold oven once the dough has doubled in the pot.
Set the oven temperature to 100 degrees higher than the bread recipe calls for, e.g., 450 degrees Fahrenheit if the recipe calls for a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven. The steam will from the water soaked pots will help the rolls to bake nicely.

I greased each little pot with crisco to make it easier for the roll to come out.

For the roll dough I used frozen Rhodes dinner rolls.

I cut each roll in half ...I think I would have liked them better if I had used a whole roll in my little pots so they could have been up over the top of the pot..

Then I simply plopped my half pieces into the pots, sprinkled them with poppy seeds, let them rise and then baked them a little longer than what the package called for until they were golden.

Super cute and EASY! You could top them with some fresh herbs, or maybe roll the dough balls in melted butter and lemon or orange zest for a springy flavor before you place them in the pots.

They really turn out so cute especially with the poppy seeds on top.

Whatever you decide to do they will turn adorable. This would make such a cute wedding gift. Attach recipe to mini terra cotta pots with poppy seeds on a cookie sheet.
