Budget Land of Nod Inspired Girls Room
By The Style Sisters - Monday, November 24, 2014
My daughter and I are so excited to reveal my granddaughters Land Of Nod Inspired Room! While I was visiting my daughter in the frozen tundra of Idaho (seriously it's like she lives in Alaska it is SOOOO dang cold) We kept busy planning, sewing, and decorating her kids rooms.
Madeline bought the toddler bed from Ikea in the "as is" department for only $55.00 and the antique dresser from an estate sale for about $20.00 and her dad added little legs and they painted it white... You can see the before and during pictures here. The polka dots are vinyl! I will be showing the polka dot tutorial this week as well as this awesome EASY CHEAP cornice tutorial!!

Madeline found a tutorial for this garland and made it to hang on Ella's wall. Here is a link to the tutorial. Madeline created the geometric heart artwork herself and the deer art which we will be offering both art prints soon!
This metal shelving unit was also found in the IKEA "as is" section for only $7.00! Madeline spray painted it gold and it adds the perfect place to display things that are special to my granddaughter.
Don't you love this little sparkly gold Christmas tree! This was purchased at Target in last years after Christmas sale. They currently offer the same ones in a variety of colors.
The chair, lamp and gold frame are all thrift store finds. The big white canvas is getting ready to be painted by Madeline and her daughter to make a cherished heirloom piece.
We will be offering a "Get the Look" shop for certain items like the Pillows, Artwork, Fabrics and limited supply of tassel garland coming soon!
We had so much fun pulling this room together and can't decide which part is our favorite! Let us know in the comments what you love the best!

Fashion Friday- Layering tips for short waisted women
By The Style Sisters - Thursday, November 20, 2014
Welcome to Fashion Friday!
This week I am sharing layering tips for short waisted women
Fashion Friday |
I found this fun black and white polka dot blouse at H&M and the black Jeweled T-Shirt at Banana outlet. I just loved the jeweled look and no need for a necklace!
As usual the T-shirt is too long on me because of my short waist
If I left it alone I would look like one big rectangle...no curves
So I add a skinny belt...see how the lower half accentuates my hip area? NOT A GOOD LOOK...me no likey the thick rectangle action going on here
Camouflage! I pull the polka dot blouse out from underneath the t-shirt to break up the solid red and black, then I slightly pull both of the shirts up and over the belt for the blouson look. Notice how the blouse goes up on the sides?..it creates an upwards angle to camouflage the thick waist and hip.
I was never good at geometry in school but I feel like I know how to use angles to camoflague the areas of my body to look softer or more feminine.
Next week I will show you a few different looks with just the polka dot blouse!
Enjoy your weekend!
