Saturday was my birthday and I requested a watermelon cake that I had seen on the Pennywise blog so my cute daughter Emily and my cute mom created this for me!
They used watermelon, canteloupe, blueberries and limes. They started by cutting the rind off the watermelon and cutting it into a large circle for the base.
Then they did the same thing with the canteloupe...make sure the watermelon size works well the canteloupe...not too big or too small.
They repeated this process making each layer a little smaller than the one below.
With leftover pieces of each fruit they used a cookie cutters to make scalloped circles and stars to place on the outside edges. They used blueberries all around the base of each layer.

The top piece of canteloupe was tuned upside down so there was not a dip in the center. For the cake "topper" they used a slice of lime, one blueberry and a heart shaped piece of watermelon all on a toothpick stuck into the center. Then they decided to add slices of lime all around the edges to add some color to the cake.
I love how this turned out! So so cute...Yummy and made with love for Me ;)

Backyard games Minute to Win it Games pt 2

On the 4th of July we had a blast playing minute to win it games..this is fun for the youngest to the oldest in the family.
The first game we played was Booger relay. Items needed: cotton balls, vaseline and paper plates.
Here my daughters are displaying their noses covered in vaseline hahah
You simply mash your face into a paper plate full of cotton balls to get as many to stick to your nose as possible.
With the cotton balls attached you run from one side of the yard to the other and where there is another empty paper plate.
You wiggle as much as you can without using your hands to get the cotton balls to fall onto the empty plate. Whoever has the most cotton balls at the end of one minute wins!

Another game we played which I will call noodle head is hsyterical. Items needed: Shower cap, shaving cream and cheese puffs.Place the shower cap on each persons head and cover them with shaving cream
The other players take turns throwing the cheese puffs and try to get as many as they can to stick to their head. The person with the most cheese puffs stuck wins!!
Of course this can turn into a shaving cream fight involving everyone haha
No one was safe!!
This game I will call water bottle pantyhose bowling. Items needed Panty hose, Tennis balls and water bottles
Line up the water bottles in rows and each person stands at the end of the line with a pair of panty hose on their head and two tennis balls placed in the ends of each leg.
The person must shake their heads back and forth and strive to knock over each bottle of water in his or her line. The person who does it the fastest wins.
We were being all "gangsta"
Even the men were trying to be "gangsta" hahaha
We also played ping pong bucket catch. Items needed ping pongs and plastic bucket.
My mom punched holes in ice cream buckets and strung some tulle through the holes and we tied it on to each persons head. It slipped off a lot...we were thinking we should have used old hats and glued the buckets onto the hats or something like that to hold it on better.
My daughter looks like she is getting ready for a wedding or something.
You bounce the balls off the wall of the house and try to catch the balls in the buckets. The person with the most balls in their buckets wins. It is hysterical!

Backyard Entertaining Red White Blue Pt 1

We had the best time ever for the 4th of July with lots of family in the backyard.
I want to share our decoration ideas that can work for any backyard get together. First off my daughter made t-shirts for her kids painting stripes and stars on them...aren't they adorable :)
We decided to get a 4 generation photo taken. My sister Tiffany took this picture of my granddaughter, my daughter, myself and my cute mom!!
I made Madeline a couple of red white and blue banners to hand around the back yard to bring in a little festivity. I made this one first and backed each triangle with matching fabric zigzagging all around the edges. I used double fold bias tape as the "string" it was so easy to whip up but I made another one and did not back each triangle...much easier!
I bought this cute metal vase for my daughter a while ago from Ikea and now wished I would have bought myself one too!! What was I thinking? So cute with white daisies and the airy pink flowers coming out of the top like fireworks!
Here is the other banner I made and we strung it up between two big trees. It looked adorable.
I had left over fabric from the banners and we used them as little runners down the tables.

What is a backyard party without a little water hahah my son in law drenched my husband with a bucket of water..it was awesome!
Hamburgers and hot dogs were on the menu
We BBQ'ed the corn on the cob in the husks for about 10 min and then added butter, lime. feta cheese and cilantro....such a favorite of ours during the summer months....I can't get enough of that flavor!
Our favorite spinach salad with apples, berries, craisins and honey slivered almonds with Brianna's poppyseed dressing.
Watermelon cut into small chunks and served in this cute flower shaped chip and dip bowl
We always serve water mixed with limes and lemons...but putting it in this jug makes it look fancier :)
Hanging a swing off a tree is just the best enterainment for kids and seating in the shade for conversations is best for us older kids.

Entertaining in the backyard is always the most fun...up next some of the "minute to win it" games we played with the entire family. It was hysterical!!
