This 4th of July tablescape started with a scarf!! Go get one today and tell them Style Sisters sent you :) I also used my denim silverware holders and I stuck in some mini American flags into a couple of the denim silverware holders to add to the look.
I love to accessorize!!! Here I used my red Christmas cake plate covered with a white doiley and added one of my denim waistbands around the cake plate to bring in more of the denim look.
These denim silverware holders are the perfect accessory for your July 4th party or any backyard shindig!
To bring in more red color I used a fun red ceramic drink dispenser set atop a cake creamy metal cake stand. It's the perfect waymtomlift the dispenser up high enough to get a glass underneath.

I decided to try some new recipes and I will share those with you on Friday. Asparagus ribbon salad, multigrain roll up sandwiches and a whipped cream berry tart!

Centerpiece Wednesday and wrap up

Last week we had a fabulous turnout for our weekly party and once again we love seeing all the creativity you all have!

How to decorate a cultural hall

To decorate a large hall...namely a multipurpose room (cultural hall) that is huge with basketball hoops and wood floors on a tiny tiny budget takes creativity and a whole lot of help! My friend Val and her sweet husband along with many other friends put this together for our youth conference! First off Val's husband wanted to hang lights and a create a balloon drop for the dance!
He looked online and figured out how to make a "net" to hold the balloons he used plastic..like painters drop cloth and a machine that melts or seals edges together to create this balloon holder. (I don't know what that machine is called)
It was so cool because he was able to make seams down each side where string could be fed through on each side and then hung from one end of the room to the other and when it was time to pull one side ....the balloons fell gently down on all the dancers...they LOVED it!
Next he hung the lights...he strung a large wire from one basketball hoop to the other...going down the center of the room...then he strung lights across the other direction from large eye bolts in the walls. Once the lights were strung he made the basketball hoops fold up out of the way which pulled the center wire up and the lights went up in the center and it created a nice sway.
Adding large pops of color makes all the difference in the world as it makes your eyes focus on that instead of boring walls. Val made these adorable truffula trees from the Lorax movie. She made them out of grey foam from Lowes that is normally used to cover pipes! Then added some bright colored tissue paper flowers! The added touch is the yellow duct tape all down the trunks of the trees. Val used yellow duct tape to tape them to the walls. They are very light weight so they stayed up perfectly!
On the stage a very talented friend Jacinda painted this huge backdrop for us using two king sized sheets! Yep...sheets! Val's hubby built two wooden frames with stands for the sheets to be pinned onto. Jacinda painted these in her garage. First she rolled each sheet with white paint to make them stiff and then began her creativity drawing this out with pencil and then painting it all in bright colors! Sheesh she is amazing!!!
Val's hubby once again got busy and created these wooden signs to be placed around the cultural hall. He even found wood that was crooked to use as the posts! He then hand painted all the letters!
Do you recognize this elephant? Yes it is Horton but my daughter made it out of cardboard and painted it for a baby shower..HERE. Another talented Young Woman..Brook made all the rest of the Dr. Suess characters that were hung all along the walls. The brown paper underneath was cut into "hills" to look like the characters were moving toward the stage where the big backdrop was.
More of Val's Truffula trees were added in to bring in more pops of color.
We also had a photo booth. Val's hubby made these wood frames and Val painted them and cut out funny mustaches for the kids to take pics with.
This is me "Thing 1" (far right) and my stake Young Women presidency "Thing 2,3 and 4) with the stake YM president (the Lorax) his amazing wife made him his entire costume!!,
We had a blast and so did all the youth! We were all totally exhausted by the end of the youth conference but it was totally worth it!

Dr. Suess book wreath and Centerpiece Wednesday!

Hello all my creative and talented bloggy friends! I have been crazy busy lately planning and completing a large youth conference with a Dr. Suess theme.
We used the book "oh the places you will "stand". I made this wreath using "The cat in the hat" and "Hop on Pop" Dr. Suess books. We used it on our snack table as the centerpiece. I saw this wreath here and decided to whip one up. It was pretty easy. I cut each page into a 6" square and rolled them into little comes with a little tail sticking out of the top. I took a paper plate and cut out the center circle and glued each cone onto it.

Then to cover up the center hole I cut a circle out of one of the books with the Cat in the Hat centered on it of course :)
This is the only pic I have of the table...it looked so much cuter in person! My friend made the banners in the background soo cute! We filled glass jars with all kinds of candy, popcorn and pretzels.
Here is the gym all decked out...my friends husband did the lights, the balloon drop, and made the wooden signage!

For dinner last night I made a yummy frittata and added some yams to it. Oh it was so good! When you saute the yams it brings out their sweetness and adds a ton of flavor. I also added in a few fresh basil leaves snipped into skinny slices that really made this frittata come to life.
Paired with a simple fuit salad of pears, watermelon, canteloupe and strawberries...YUMMMO and easy!
Here is the recipe for the Spinach Frittata and I added in half of a large yam cut into small cubes. I sauteed it in oil first an then followed the rest of the recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup red bell pepper, cut into thin
matchsticks
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 bag fresh spinach
|
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 large leaves of fresh basil
1/2 of one large yam

DIRECTIONS:
| 1. | Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook 1/2 of 1 Yam cubed until browned and then and stir red pepper and onion in hot oil until tender, about 5 minutes. |
| 2. | Beat eggs and milk together in a bowl until smooth; add spinach, mozzarella cheese, salt, and black pepper. Gently stir to mix evenly; pour into the skillet. |
| 3. | Place a cover on the skillet and cook until the egg mixture is completely set in the center, 7 to 10 minutes. Cut into wedges to serve. Linking to Cuisine Kathleen Lets Dish |
