I took this pictures about 4 years ago while on a home tour in the Salt Lake City, Utah area and fell in love with everything about it!! I love white kitchens so much! This is where I first fell in love with the robin's egg blue color of the walls. I can't seem to find the other pictures that I took of this house. It was one amazing home. I still dream about it.
Look at this black and white kitchen....I love the stripes and big check patterned fabric. I really like the glass cupboard doors on some of the top cupboards. The built in bench seating is just so adorable. It looks so inviting. I want to be there right now having a lovely breakfast...or lunch...or dinner...or even just a snack. :) (photo from internet I don't remember where)





This is probably one of my favorite kitchens....I call it Sweet Potatoes because of the sign in the background. I love the butcher block counter tops, the warm golden wood floors, the little "leg" styling of the cupboards touching the floor, the glass cupboard doors and the simple black knobs. OH yeah and the cute chalkboard sitting on the counter. This just says come on in everyone and let's have a meal. Doesn't it? (Photo from country living July 2002)

You must go check out Just a Girl blog! This was her Deal of the Decade post and was it ever a deal! She got this "sucker" for $27.00 (without the cushions) HELLO!! Truly this is one lucky girl. Her posts are so funny to read and there is some delicious photos of dreamy rooms on her blog as well as really cute and fun photos of the amazing things she has done in her own home. She is just like us....wants the beautiful expensive stuff but can't afford it so she figures out way to re-create things very inexpensively. Ohhh and check out her "closet chaos" post and see the after photos...She has really inspired me to get organizing and cleaning up my own closet. We are excited to keep checking out her blog.

I wanted a new hutch but they are just too expensive for me right now so when I was at Ikea the other day with my good friend Penny, we came upon this great looking black shelving unit for only $99.00 and I thought what a great deal! Penny and I brought it home. After my cute hubby put it together (in only an hour) I realized that my plates would slip off (because there is no plate holder in it) So..... I got out my hot (cool) glue gun and drew a line of glue in front of each of the plates and voila!! it holds them in place beautifully and the best part is.....you can just pull the glue strip right off if you decide to use the book shelf for books one day instead of dishes!


I then worked some magic and placed all my cute white and black and white dishes for display. I am so happy with how it all turned out. Next to the shelving unit are some clear vases hung from black wrought Iron holders and I simply put a big white fluffy Hydrangea in each one. I purchased these from a cool shop in St. George, Utah called Urban Renewal....most things in the shop are used as these were. Love Love Love that shop!

Here are a couple of other ideas...a wicker basket to corral paper goods and plastic silverware (if you must use it) and a wine tote turned condiment carrier. I love the idea of bringing nice things to the picnic or outdoor dinner instead of a plastic grocery bag. This makes living everyday special by doing things a little nicer. It sure looks good to me!!

Didn't my sister do a great job on her re-do craft room?? So I have a craft room too, only it is super duper skinny and it's also my laundry room. So I have put up many shelves to hold all of my "stuff". But some containers that I can't live without are these silver beauties from one of my fav places, IKEA! They are super cheap but yet so cute to have on display! I also got their magazine holders which work great for mags or for paper! I also use many baskets of all shapes and sizes to hold things. I love to organize! Sometimes my family thinks I am a little freakish because I am always trying to organize something!! But it makes me feel so good when it's done! I always wanted a room where I could spread out all my sewing/craft stuff when working on a project and not have to worry about getting it all cleaned up before dinner. My sewing room almost always encompassed the kitchen or dinning room table. I feel very fortunate to have this nice room now.... with a large window where I not only sew.... but scrapbook (if the mood strikes me), wrap gifts, have storage for my tons of magazines and all my crafting/sewing supplies.

Recently I decided to organize it and here are my before and after photos.

Here is a cheap way to hold all of your wrapping paper... I used shelf brackets that had large dowel holders on them. I then took twine and wrapped it around several rolls of wrapping paper and then tied the twine to the dowel! You can then slip the roll that you need out of the twine. It's great because it gets the paper off of your floor and up where you can see what you have!

This is the easiest thing in the world to make! First you start off with a cupboard door any size (these can be found at places like Habitat for Humanity, thrift shops or cabinet shops). Then you need to sand the door a little bit. You then spray paint the outside part of the door and let it dry. Next paint the inside part of the door with chalkboard paint (the kind you paint on with a brush) Try to do it as neatly as you can. Then once that dries, attach the ribbon or twine to the back with a staple gun (Do this by tying a knot with the ribbon and then staple right above that so that it stays in place. You are now done and ready to enjoy your new chalkboard!!!
