Fashion Friday- Black and White Polka Dots are so versatile!

I really enjoy having a fabulous blouse that works in many different ways and one that can be worn in winter as well as the spring! I just noticed in the photos furry fluffs on my sweater...that drives me crazy! I am going to have to get out my razor and shave off the fluffy areas.

I paired it with a gold sweater and a fun sparkly necklace around the neckline and my go to dark skinny jeans

I am wearing flats a lot more instead of those crazy high heels that are so popular. I actually would love to wear a pair of those heels but my back would not be very happy with me...I will need to find a pair of kitten heeled pumps to give the illusion of heels with my jeans but I am happy with a comfy pair of flats for now :)

You may remember I blogged about this polka dotted blouse with a red skirt awhile back and again with a black t shirt over it for a completely different look. I know this blouse is going to get a lot of mileage the rest of the winter and on into spring...I can see it with some white capri pants or black pants and white jacket or bright colored sweater!!

So versatile and fun!

I had pinned this to my Pinterest fashion board but when I clicked on it....it takes you to a jewelry store...I can't find where this gold skirt is sold and I really want to find one like it to wear with my black and white blouse.

OOOH and I had also pinned this polka dot blouse outfit with mint colored jeans and a grey sweater but again no link to credit the photo. I have these pants and a grey blouse so I think I will wear them tomorrow! :)

Quick Easy Headboard Tutorial

quick and easy headboard tutorial- The Style Sisters

For Christmas this year my hubby and I made a quick and easy headboard for our daughter as a surprise. We used 1 x 4 boards and cut them to fit a queen sized bed. We found a tutorial from Our Small Town but we used bigger pieces of wood for ours.

We measured from the floor up to the point on the wall where we wanted the top of the headboard to rest. Then we measured side to side with about a 1" or 2 " overhang on each side.

Then we.... or rather he... built the frame. He used screws and drilled them in.

TIP: Pre drill holes so the wood wont split...ask me how I know LOL

We realized we made one mistake...We should have butted the wood pieces up to each other and used a flat L bracket to hold them together instead of laying the wood pieces on top of each other because it leaves a gap when you put the fabric over it....

To compensate for the gap my hubby used the left over wood pieces and nailed them on top to make it flush.

All fixed now :) Lay the headboard on top of batting leaving enough to fold over the tops of the wood. I doubled the batting to make it fuller.

Next use a staple gun to staple it all around the frame.

Fold over the edges of batting on corners and staple them down

Next lay the frame that has batting all stapled on it on top of your fabric. I chose these queen sized basic grey sheets from Target and doubled up the sheet to make it thicker. We started stapling on the top of the headboard and moved to the bottom of the headboard and stretched the fabric as we went along and made sure it was smooth.

TIP- Check it by lifting it up and taking a look just to make sure it is smooth every so often.

Once the top and bottom were stapled down....we moved to the sides and did the same thing. On the corners we kind of folded and pleated the fabric to make it smooth on the corners and stapled.

Once the fabric was stapled and smooth we added buttons. I measured to make sure they were even and sewed the buttons on and tried to pull the threads pretty tight to make it look tufted.

It doesn't really look very tufted but I still love how it looks and best of all so does my daughter!

She was so surprised!

For the legs we added a little extra fabric and stapled it all the way down.

It just made the room look complete!

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at the

"Bed and Breakfast"

(not for profit) LOL

We have had so many people staying with us over the last two weeks!

First we had my sister and her family and her sons basketball team (above looking oh so tough heheh) plus my cousin and his two daughters, and my oldest daughter Madeline and her family one night we were able to sleep 18 people!! 8 in sleeping bags! After dinner one night we had a dance off...these boys can move!! It was a blast!

Some just stayed for one night and others stayed for a few nights and at one point we cooked food for 20 people!

Then just this last weekend we had my cute mom and her hubby and my nephew and his family plus other family members that just stopped in for dinner one night and then on Sunday we had about 13 for dinner! Not all are pictured above some came later.... I love filling my house to the brim with family and friends!

I will be posting some recipes from all these dinners on my other blog this week too

Black and white dishes

A simple addition of bead board to the back of my IKEA shelving unit and its a whole new piece!

Here is the shelving before with no back piece on it. My dishes just don't show up.

I went over to Lowes and bought a piece of bead board $20.00 and had them cut it to my specifications 36"wide x 76"high it left me with some large leftover pieces... I will find another use for those pieces. This is the back of the shelving unit before the board was put on.

We used small finish nails to attach the board to the back. This is back of the unit with board on it...sorry the pic is kinda funky with the lighting.

Within a few minutes... It was done!! No painting required!

I love the detailing and how it makes my cute dishes pop.

Remember how this looked in my red kitchen nook?

I have always loved white dishes and especially these lettered dishes from TJmaxx years ago. My lettered dishes look so cute in this lime green Tablescape
