Last night my family and I went on a walk around the neighborhood for a Pre-Halloween jaunt to check out some awesome Halloween decorations!!
These are all from one house! Rumor has it that someone in their family worked for Disney on the Haunted Mansion ride. It is seriously AH MAZzzing!!
There are so many vignettes to gaze upon! There is no way you can see it all in one visit!
This guy playing the organ is awersome!! As far as I could tell the organ pipes are made from pool noodles sprayed gold! The keyboard is made of wooden slates painted white and black...oh and he is mechanical and moves! With music and fog coming up from the back!
I think I counted 8 chandeliers that are fully working, an old clock, the amazing silver phonograph, tons and tons of skeletons all dressed for the occasion.
Here is one out for a stroll with her lovely skeleton dog in the carriage. See the painting on the wall...it is a scary dude that moves and watches you.
Just look up at the rood with the lighting and then the black and white fabric treatment below! There is a couple of graveyards with skeletons popping from behind, pumpkins that talk...there is even a movie screen with skeletons dancing!
We dressed up with crazy hats...I am wearing reindeer antlers...it is a dog costume LOL it kept falling off to the side so we were thugging it up. Do you love my littlest grandson peeking from out of the blanket?
How can I even begin to tell you how thrilled the grands were to see all of this?!!
I love this sign...Reservations...guests are dying to get in!!
Are you dying over this row boat coffin? He does actually row by the way!!

Store bought Halloween cookies and A Relief Society Swap til you Drop Meet

The other night I helped host a fun night Relief Society activity at our church..."Swap til you Drop Meet" where everyone brings gently used clothes, home decor items, toys, baby items...etc.. It turned out awesome!!
I served these cute store bought Halloween cookies from Walmart.
I love being able to take store bought cookies look like there are something special. Just taking them out their containers that they come in and arranging them on a nice tray makes them look so much more impressive.
I showed this great little video called "Now Serving" it is all about doing random little things to brighten peoples day. It is really creatively done...it is only 2 min long take a minute to watch it..it will bring you a little joy.
I set up the gym with tables and signs to let everyone know where they could place all their goodies.
It was a great turn out with lots of clothes, toys, games, books, baby items, kitchen things and other decor items.
Everyone took home at least one bag of "treasures" for free!! I found a jacket, a book and carpet spot cleaning machine! It is such a great way to get rid of things you may not need but it might something that someone else would love!
All the leftover things were bagged up and donated to a local thrift store. It is a win win for all the women who attended as well as helping out our community thrift store.
Many of the women suggested we do this again and again!
Imagine a beautifully decorated hutch filled with lots of beautiful black and white dishes with a touch of Halloween infused into it...
Well...I don't really have a hutch.... it is actually an Ikea shelving unit that I sprinkled with a touch of Fall/Halloween colors.
You may remember my "hutch" before I added the bead board backing?
I really do love how it looks now and the dishes really pop off the white background
My collection of black and white dishes are so fun and versatile and work for any holiday but of course they work the best for Halloween!
You can see my large collection of napkins in the baskets but I have even more! Obsession...why..yes I do!
Over on the other side of the room I decked out this little area with a fall garland hanging over the mirror.
It might be a little over the top but I just decided to hang it up there for fun.
Polka dots are just fun aren't they??

Fall stacked cake plates with newspaper edges inspired by Matthew Mead and Pottery Barn

Bringing back an idea: A few years ago I shared how to make this three tiered stacked cake plate with newspaper cut into scallops on the edges.
It is a fun Centerpiece idea
I decided to try and recreate it using things I already owned. As I was looking around my kitchen I found I had 3 cheapie glass cake plates and knew I could stack on them on each other.
I used newspaper but you could use any kind of paper...construction paper, scrapbook paper, Tissue paper, even butcher paper!! Decide what kind of a trim you want whether is be a scalloped edge or maybe even a triangle edge...whatever your heart desires.
After I cut the newspaper into scallops and punched holes in each scallop with a hole puncher, I attached it the edge of the cake plate with Hot glue!! It comes off really easy after you done..it just peels off.
Then I started adding fun things on each layer...like bags of popcorn in cello bags tied with orange ribbon, little orange cups filled with candy treats, apples and fall leaves etc..
Here it is all done with with all kinds of yummy Halloween treats to use as a center piece for a table or side board.
Using what you have and making it new again!!
You could use this idea for any Holiday or birthday!
Since this original post I did end up buying a 3 tier, 2 tier and a 1 tier galvanized tin serve ware from Pick your plum and have used them many times...once for this hot chocolate bar, My easy fall centerpiece, Navy and Peach Wedding reception and to serve my caramel apples on just to name a few

Should I change my hairstyle or leave it the same?

I can't decide if I want to change my hairstyle to a shorter fun sassier look or keep it the way it is right now. I really love the haircut below!! It just looks fun and sassy! Plus the fact that she is rocking her silver color (mine is coming in) is just awesome. I have a square jaw so this could work.
Or I could continue to let my hair grow and have a nice bob.
My hair is somewhat like this now and it can be versatile if I take the time to do things with it...like curl it.
Of course this is just a classic bob but it is sleek and pretty
I love how this bob looks with some layers
This is pretty much how it looks most of the time with my glasses on my head because I can't see close up at all any more so I need my glasses with me at all times!
This is how my hair looks when I wear my glasses but then I can't see far away...
I need my friends opinions...
leave it or cut it?

Two Roasted Chickens and vegetables

As some of you know on Sundays we usually have a lot of family over for Sunday dinner. This last Sunday there was 12 of us all around the table. Six of which are men who can put the food away!
I decided to roast not one but two chickens and lots of roasted veggies.
THEY. ATE. EVERYTHING.
For the herb butter I used 1/2 a stick of butter and a mixture of fresh herbs consisting of Rosemary, basil, thyme and sage and chopped them up and using a fork mashed them into the butter then I separated the skin from the breast and used my fingers to spread the butter all around
Because the chickens are cold from the fridge the butter tends to harden up so I had to kind of mush it around from the outside of the breast to get it to spread out a little bit.
The vegetables that I used were potatoes, yams, carrots, and onions chopped into chunks. Drizzled with oil and more fresh herbs.
Make sure to tie the legs with some string.... I just used thicker thread
I forgot to take a picture of the beautiful golden chickens but they were gorgeous and the meat was so moist and yummy!
Everyone was ready to eat and EAT THEY DID!
