Don't you just love the look of porches! I found these photos on the Country Home magazine website and just loved them. They have this romantic, soft billowy look about them. We don't have a porch at our current home but I sure would love to have one someday. I can just imagine myself..... sitting out on our beautiful porch on a perfect summer evening...we finished dinner, the dishes are done, and my hubby and I are drinking a tall cold glass of refreshing lemonade and eating some homemade flaky shortbread cookies just out of the oven! We sit there into the evening watching neighborhood kids play "hide and go seek" out in the street and reminisce about how we used to do that as kids. Then we watch the sunset.... and soon the fireflies start to light up all around us and we just smile at each other and enjoy the sweet quiet moment.
Please share with us how you enjoy your porch or how you would like to enjoy a porch of your own?
I love any of Ina Garten's Cookbooks they are so easy and every recipe turns into family favorite every time! All the women in our family cook from her cookbooks. Some of our favorite recipes are her Apple crostada, Panzanella salad, Lemon bars, Creme Brulee, Roasted asparagus, Herbed baked eggs...just to name a few. Try one of her cookbooks!
Let me know what you think of the transformation....
BLACK IKEA SHELVING W/ BLACK AND WHITE DISHES
By The Style Sisters - Thursday, June 05, 2008
I wanted a new hutch but they are just too expensive for me right now so when I was at Ikea the other day with my good friend Penny, we came upon this great looking black shelving unit for only $99.00 and I thought what a great deal! Penny and I brought it home. After my cute hubby put it together (in only an hour) I realized that my plates would slip off (because there is no plate holder in it) So..... I got out my hot (cool) glue gun and drew a line of glue in front of each of the plates and voila!! it holds them in place beautifully and the best part is.....you can just pull the glue strip right off if you decide to use the book shelf for books one day instead of dishes!
I then worked some magic and placed all my cute white and black and white dishes for display. I am so happy with how it all turned out. Next to the shelving unit are some clear vases hung from black wrought Iron holders and I simply put a big white fluffy Hydrangea in each one. I purchased these from a cool shop in St. George, Utah called Urban Renewal....most things in the shop are used as these were. Love Love Love that shop!
I am participating in Tablescapers Where do you Keep It

Here are some fun things I found at http://www.surlatable.com/ and http://www.potterybarn.com/ to make any backyard Bar-B-Que seem even more special. I love all the summertime colors and themes for the serveware, napkins and even the glasses. Look at the photo of the hanging candles. I have to do that! I know you can make some yourself...using mason jars, wire and little votive candles. I must make some soon!
Check out www.tastefullyentertaining.blogspot.com Rebecca finds all kinds of cool, fun and motivating things and creates an inspiration board that shows ideas for how to put on a party or celebration. Rebecca links all her photos and information to many different website and blogs. I love how she starts with a color or an inviation and puts it all together . On wednesdays she calls it "wedding wednesdays" and finds tons of great things that have to do with weddings.

This is what it looked like after I spray painted it with primer.........
This is what it looked like before I started (sorry I forgot to take a before pic of the whole thing)
The very cool drawer (this pic makes it look like it is blue but it is turquoise)

And VOILA!! The finished piece! I love how it turned out. I brush painted it the turquoise color and then I spray painted the knobs silver! I needed a large bookcase that could hold all of our books, stereo and dvd's. There are a ton of books on it so it looks kind of mish moshy (my word for messy) but I still love it! It was a great find and I had fun painting it! So this proves you can take anything and make it beautiful!
