Faux Roman Shade using No Hardware!
I spent last week at my daughter Madeline's house helping her get her house ready to put on the market in Idaho Falls and boy did we crank out lots of projects!
Not only did we paint Banisters and stair skirts (which I didn't even know that is what they are called but I do now! AND I LOATHE painting them.... actually not the paint part it was all the puttying and sanding all the holes and lumps and bumps from 1980's carpet. You know what I'm talking about... when they would carpet up those areas urrrghghgh......I must really love my daughter an awful lot to do all that!) Any way.... we caulked and sanded and did lots of touching up, I helped her tile a back splash (finished pics to come), plus I had to make time to Play with the grandkids, then do some cleaning,a tid bit of laundry and just all around tried to help where I could.
One project that my oober talented daughter (who by the way is pregnant with her fourth baby) started making were these faux Roman shades!
You may remember the roman shades I made at my sisters house using an old Ikea shade for the back? These are even easier!!
STEP 1- Measure your window and add 1" to each side for seams and 2 1/2" hem and 3" header or however big you want them to be. Fold each edge over 1/4" and then fold over for the complete measurement and Iron and Pin
STEP 2- Sew down side seams first and then the top and hem.
STEP 3- The Pleats- Madeline had already made two Faux Roman shades for the smaller windows so we knew how long to make the one for the French door. Fold up the fabric to make "pleats" to the size you want and how long you want the shade to hang.
Tip- If your windows are all lined up and somewhat connected...Make sure all your shades are the same length or it will look funky. These two bottom pleats measured close to 2" we think that looks good.
STEP 4- Sew up each side top to bottom to hold the pleats in place
STEP 5- Minimal hand sewing. To keep the pleats from drooping I sewed up the separate lines just catching a little bit of fabric to hold them in place
I used quilting thread as it is a little thicker and therefore stronger
TIP- I made sure to catch just a little fabric on the front as well just to hold the weight of the pleats. You can see the other Roman Shade tutorial Here
STEP 6- THE MAGIC of Command velcro hanging strips
The Lovely Madeline showing you the strips..they are kind of like velcro but they snap into each other
Place sticky side to the edge of trim on the door so it will hang a little bit away from the door.
Attach another sticky strip to the backside top edge of the Roman Shade and then press into the door sticky strip!
DONE!
Stand back and marvel at the beauty you just created!
Note: No Walls were hurt in this installation.
The Shades hanging in the windows were made to slip a spring rod through the top header of the shade.
SIMPLE CHEAP and BEAUTIFUL!!
Chinese Birthday Party idea- Pin the Eye on the dragon!
By The Style Sisters - Wednesday, March 16, 2016
Our granddaughter is in what is called Chinese immersion in her elementary school where the children are taught Chinese half of the day. It is AMAZING how fast the kids pick it up! So now she loves all things Chinese....so for her 7th birthday she decided that she wanted a Chinese birthday party!
So my daughter painted this dragon for pin the tail on the dragon game and the kids loved it!
A chocolate ruffled cake with dragons on the top (thanks to my hubby for supplying a lot of the decor for the party from all his travels to Asia)
The kids were so adorable!
A few were hamming it up at the impromptu "dance party"
Lining up to play pin the eye on the dragon!
Our granddaughter in her red Chinese dress...so dang cute!
A mix of old and new party decorations that I had from past parties you may remember the bridal shower here and the black red and white wedding we held in our backyard or maybe the Beauty and the Beast Party I love re-using decorations!
This huge Chinese fan has been hanging around our house for a few years now! You can see it here on the wall when we held a Chinese dinner for our youngest daughters prom when we lived in Texas
Over the last 7 years Ella had such a fun birthday parties! One of my favorites has got to be the Frozen party or her Pink Princess party oh gosh there are so many fun parties I just can't pick and favorite right now ;)
